The National Welfare Engine is a coalition of approximately 25 grassroots welfare rights organizations from across the country. The Engine Committee aims to insure that the voices of low- income individuals are heard and have an impact on policy decisions made on low-income programs. The Engine supports grassroots groups organizing and mobilizing around TANF reauthorization and other issues that impact low income people. The Engine provides a mechanism for these groups to coordinate and collaborate with one another by providing information resources and help promoting the replication of successful campaigns. The Engine also serves to support the formation and development of grassroots groups coming together in coalition such as the Western Regional Welfare Activists' Network and the Southern Welfare Activist Connection.
