The Missouri Audubon Council is composed of representatives of the 14 chapters of the National Audubon Society in the state plus the Audubon Society of Missouri. It's purpose is to coordinate and represent the interests of these chapters at the state level. In recent years the council has supported the establishment of the Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge along the Missouri River opposed lead prospecting and mining on state-owned public lands
