The Floridians For Humane Farms and the Florida Humane Society are on a state wide initiative to collect 500,000 signatures form Florida voters for a porposed constitutional ammendment on the 2002 June ballot. They are attempting to have the use of gestation crates for pregnant pigs banned in the state of Florida as it is in Europe. Corporate farms are the cause of these actions. In an attempt to produce as much meat as possible they jam pack the pigs into tiny 2 foot crates. As of now pregnant pigs spend an overwhelming majority of time in these crates where they are unable to turn around freely
