The Albemarle Learning Center located in Edenton NC was chartered as a non-profit 501-c-(3) organization in 1992 with a primary mission of providing recreational and educational programs for children with disabilities. In 1998 the CENTER received a three-year Annenberg Rural Challenge Grant to expand their work with public schools in five contiguous counties to develop curricular related activities on using communities as classrooms (Place Based Education). The CENTER owns an 80 acres farm and has leased access to a nearby mill pond. Program activities include learning opportunities for students
